Zverev seeks revenge before Miami: "I hope to show good tennis again"
Alexander Zverev does not want to make the same mistakes. Defeated in the quarterfinals in Buenos Aires and then in Rio, the world number 2 was knocked out early in Indian Wells, after also being eliminated prematurely in Acapulco.
Lacking confidence and results since his defeat in the Australian Open final in January, the German approaches Miami with more pressure, having reached the semifinals last year in Florida.
Speaking at a press conference before starting his tournament, Zverev is aware of his current struggles but assures that he feels good in training and will give everything to turn things around as quickly as possible.
"I haven't played at my best level in recent weeks, even though I started the season well in Australia. I hope I can change things here and show good tennis again. Miami is my favorite city in the United States, and the Miami Heat (NBA franchise) is my favorite sports team, so I really love being here.
The conditions probably suit me better than in Indian Wells. The courts here are faster, it's more humid. Here, I really want to take it match by match and try to progress step by step. I've had excellent training sessions. I remember how I played here last year, so I hope to show a good level of play on the court during this tournament," Zverev assured.
