Bouquier, 225th in the world, threatened with death by a bettor before his match
Arthur Bouquier is in the best period of his career. The 26-year-old Frenchman reached his highest ranking this year with a 223rd place in the world, achieved notably thanks to his title at the Lille Challenger.
Currently in Thionville to compete in a tournament, Bouquier will face Florian Broska, a German player, in his opening match this Tuesday.
On Instagram, a few hours before stepping onto the court, the Frenchman shared a message he received privately from a bettor who did not hesitate to threaten him with very strong words.
"I hope you win today. French tennis is so mediocre right now that French players are reduced to playing at home to avoid embarrassment abroad.
I remind you that you don't do much when you leave France, which shows the limits of your tennis game. You're playing against Florian Broska, who never wins in the first round. I bet 2000 euros on you in 2 sets. I swear to you that if you lose, I will never forgive you.
I will hunt you or your family just to hurt you, even if it means going to prison. By the way, if I lose these 2000 euros, I will be on the streets, so nothing will make sense to me, and I might as well end my days in prison.
I swear on my mother's life that I will kill you. Currently, I am on the court in Thionville where you are playing," wrote the individual in question.
