Bublik Skips Toronto
Registered for Toronto to compete in the penultimate Masters 1000 before the US Open, Bublik has withdrawn. Currently in Kitzbühel, where he is set to play his semifinal against Van de Zandschulp, the Kazakh has already chosen to skip the Canadian tournament.
This was the only hard-court event he played last year just before Flushing Meadows. He lost early in both tournaments, first to Shelton in Toronto and then to Shang Juncheng in New York. It remains to be seen what the 28-year-old player will decide next. Note that this withdrawal benefits Carreño Busta.
In the meantime, he is in contention to win his second consecutive clay-court tournament after Gstaad, where he defeated Juan Manuel Cerundolo with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
