Withdrawal in Toronto, Djokovic Takes a Break with Croatian Football Stars
Novak Djokovic aims to continue making tennis history. The 38-year-old Serb is chasing a 25th Grand Slam title, which has eluded him since the 2023 US Open. His next major goal will indeed be the American Major at Flushing Meadows at the end of August.
A semifinalist in the first three Grand Slams of the year, he stumbled against Alexander Zverev in Melbourne before falling to Jannik Sinner just shy of the finals in Paris and then London.
A runner-up at the Miami Masters 1000 against Jakub Mensik, the former world No. 1 also clinched the 100th title of his career last May in Geneva against Hubert Hurkacz.
But now, Djokovic wants to rest before tackling the final stretch of the season. Indeed, the Belgrade native has decided to delay his return to competition after Wimbledon and has withdrawn from the Toronto Masters 1000, which begins next week.
Still entered in Cincinnati, he is currently enjoying his vacation on Croatian beaches. In fact, in recent days, Novak Djokovic has been spotted alongside two big names in Croatian football: Luka Modrić and Mateo Kovačić.
Modrić, a Real Madrid legend, has just signed with AC Milan, while Kovačić plays for Manchester City. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin was also present with them. Djokovic will recharge his batteries before heading to the United States in the coming weeks.
