Burel's Message After Her Serious Injury: "I'm Still in Shock"
Last week, France was competing in Group I (the equivalent of the second division) of the BJK Cup. While Julien Benneteau's players faced Turkey, Clara Burel suffered a heavy fall on the court during her match against Ayla Aksu.
Leading 4-1 in the first set, the Rennes native, ranked 140th in the world, was seriously injured and has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee. It’s a tough blow for Burel, who had just returned to competition in March after already missing the start of 2025.
On her Instagram account, the 24-year-old French player shared a message after seeing her season likely come to an end: "I’m still in shock about what happened last week in the BJK Cup. The road ahead will be very long and very difficult, but I’m ready for this challenge.
I’m certain I’ll come back even stronger from this experience. Thank you for all your messages," Burel wrote on social media in recent hours.
