Cahill Will Not Accompany Sinner During the US Open

Jannik Sinner has made a few changes to his team in recent weeks. Just before Wimbledon, which the Italian went on to win, the current world No. 1 announced he was parting ways with his fitness coach Marco Panichi as well as his physiotherapist, Ulises Badio.
In recent days, Sinner has also rehired Umberto Ferrara, a former fitness coach for the 23-year-old player when his doping case was made public last year.
Additionally, Sinner recently managed to convince Darren Cahill, one of his two coaches who contributed to his success in recent years, to continue the journey next season. This comes despite the Australian stating at the start of the current season that he would retire at the end of the year.
However, Cahill will not be present with his protégé during the US Open, which takes place from August 24 to September 7.
As reported by the Italian media outlet *La Repubblica*, the 59-year-old will take a short break and will not be by Sinner’s side in New York, though this should not affect their collaboration in the coming months.
Simone Vagnozzi will therefore have the tough task of preparing the four-time Grand Slam champion during the American fortnight at Flushing Meadows. After withdrawing from Toronto, the Italian will return to competition in Cincinnati, a tournament where he is the defending champion.
By early September, Sinner—who claimed the title last summer by defeating Taylor Fritz—will attempt to become the first men’s singles player to defend his US Open title since Roger Federer, who won the tournament five times in a row between 2004 and 2008.
