I didn't expect them to come so quickly after the Big 3," says Thiem about Sinner and Alcaraz

Dominic Thiem now watches tennis as a spectator, having retired after the Vienna tournament in October 2024.
During the Big 3's dominance, the Austrian managed to win a Grand Slam—the US Open in 2020.
He shared his thoughts on Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who have already won nine Grand Slams between them.
Speaking to Cronache Di Tennis, he said: "The Roland-Garros and Wimbledon finals were incredible. They’ve raised the bar higher than what we were used to.
They play faster and faster, yet make fewer mistakes and move better and better. I didn’t expect two talents from our generation to emerge so quickly after the Big 3. And Novak is still playing.
Right now, they’re too far ahead. They can still lose—we saw it with Grigor Dimitrov at Wimbledon, or even Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, and Jack Draper, if those players perform perfectly.
I doubt they’ll win every Grand Slam tournament in the next ten years, but right now, they’re a step ahead of everyone else.
I would have loved to play at my peak against Alcaraz and Sinner. I don’t know how it would have ended, but it would have been a lot of fun.
