Canada Wins Its First Hopman Cup Against Italy
The 2025 edition of the Hopman Cup delivered its verdict this Sunday in Bari.
Canada and Italy faced off in the final, two nations that had never before reached this stage of the competition.
After crushing the competition in their group by defeating Spain and Greece without dropping a single set, Canada came out on top in this final after the mixed doubles. Bianca Andreescu got her team off to a perfect start with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Lucia Bronzetti, but Félix Auger-Aliassime then fell to Flavio Cobolli (6-7, 7-5, 10-8) despite leading 7-6, 4-1.
With the two nations tied, the players returned to the court to determine the winner of the event. Ultimately, Andreescu and Auger-Aliassime lifted the trophy by defeating Bronzetti and Cobolli in the mixed doubles (6-3, 6-3).
Canada now adds its name to the Hopman Cup's list of champions. As a reminder, the exhibition event did not take place last year due to the Olympics. Croatia, eliminated in the group stage this year, was the defending champion.
