Three French players were in action at the ATP 250 in Gstaad this Monday.
Arthur Cazaux, who had only won one match on clay this year, emerged victorious from his duel against Nikoloz Basilashvili (4-6, 7-5, 7-6). In the second round, he will face Tomas Etcheverry, the tournament's No. 4 seed.
However, it wasn’t to be for Terence Atmane and Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who were defeated by Kamil Majchrzak (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) and Dominic Stricker (4-6, 6-4, 6-2), respectively.
The Swiss Stricker will face Casper Ruud, the world No. 13, who is making his return to competition after skipping the grass-court season.
