Matthew Willis, tennis analyst on social networks, shared a rather surprising statistic.
During the US Open in 2024, tennis-related Google searches reached record levels in the USA.
At the same time, however, audiences at the US Open were disappointing, particularly for the men's and women's finals.
The final between Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz averaged 1.8 million viewers, down 31% on last year.
The women's final between Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula also averaged 1.8 million viewers, down 53% on last year.
This statistic is all the more astonishing given that both US Open finals featured an American player.
