Cornet already nostalgic about her career: "It feels weird not to cut Christmas short this year"
Alizé Cornet has not been active since the spring of 2024. The 34-year-old Frenchwoman decided to retire from the sport at the end of the French Open.
She lost in the first round to one of the most in-form players of recent months, Zheng Qinwen.
Despite this, La Niçoise has not yet decided to retire from the courts, as she was a consultant for France Télévisions during the French Open after her elimination.
A few months later, she commented on certain matches at the WTA Finals in Riyadh in early November for the beIN Sports channel.
The former world number 11 was used to playing a series of major tournaments throughout the year.
Indeed, she took part in every Grand Slam without exception between the 2007 Australian Open and her retirement at Roland Garros in 2024 (69 consecutive Majors over the period).
On her social networks, the 2022 Melbourne quarter-finalist expressed an emotion she hadn't felt for some time following her retirement.
"Feels weird not cutting Christmas short this year and rushing to Australia for the first time in 20 years.
A lot of my best tennis memories were there and they'll always have a special meaning for me.
Is everyone ready for a new tennis season?" wrote Cornet on X (formerly Twitter).
