De Minaur Dispatches Borges and Advances to Shanghai Quarterfinals
Alex de Minaur faced Nuno Borges this Wednesday for a spot in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters 1000.
Despite a tight first set, the Australian managed to break his opponent in the 11th game on his 5th break point.
The second set was more straightforward as de Minaur quickly led 4-0 despite 3 break-back opportunities for the Portuguese player. He ultimately won 7-5, 6-2, marking his 50th victory of the season and will face Daniil Medvedev or Learner Tien in the next round.
The Australian is the second-highest-ranked player remaining in this decimated Masters 1000, marked by withdrawals and surprise defeats.
