Despite a fiery crowd with many Brazilians in the stands, rising star Fonseca saw his Florida run come to an end.
Defeated by De Minaur in a hard-fought third-round match in Miami (5-7, 7-5, 6-3), the 18-year-old exits with his head held high.
To reach the third round in Miami, Fonseca defeated young Tien in the first round (6-7, 6-3, 6-4) and Humbert in the second (6-4, 6-3).
In 2025, the Brazilian won the Buenos Aires tournament and the Phoenix Challenger.
"I really felt like I was in Brazil. So yes, I knew there would be a crowd, but I didn’t expect it to be this massive," Fonseca told L'Équipe.
De Minaur will face Berrettini in the round of 16.
