De Minaur Makes ATP Tour History After 6-0, 6-0 Victory Over Dimitrov
Alex De Minaur had a very relaxed Friday. The Australian certainly didn’t expect to win his quarterfinal against Grigor Dimitrov with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-0, but that’s exactly what he managed to achieve in just 44 minutes of play.
This surprisingly one-sided victory also earned him a place in history, as he became the first player to win a Masters 1000 quarterfinal without dropping a single game. Since the ATP Tour was established in 1990, no one had ever delivered a 6-0, 6-0 at this stage of the competition.
In addition to this record, De Minaur also became the first Australian player to reach the semifinals in Monte-Carlo since John Alexander in 1979.
And if he wins against Lorenzo Musetti tomorrow, he would be the first player from his country to compete in the tournament’s final since John Newcombe in 1969.
