Musetti Upsets Defending Champion Tsitsipas to Reach First Monte-Carlo Semifinal

There will be a new champion in Monte-Carlo on Sunday. World No. 16 Lorenzo Musetti managed to defeat Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets (1-6, 6-4, 6-3) after 2 hours and 21 minutes of play.
Facing an opponent he had never beaten in five previous meetings, Musetti turned the match around after losing the first set decisively. He saved 14 of the 17 break points he faced on his serve.
Qualifying for his first career Masters 1000 semifinal, the Italian also became the first player born in 2002 to reach the final four in this tournament category. He will face Alex De Minaur tomorrow for a spot in the final.
Tsitsipas, a three-time Monte-Carlo champion and defending titleholder, will lose 800 points next Monday and drop out of the Top 15 for the first time since 2018, falling to No. 16 in the world rankings.
