Dimitrov and De Minaur continue to dream at the Turin Masters
The stakes are high for Grigor Dimitrov and Alex De Minaur at this 2024 edition of the Rolex Paris Masters. Having both enjoyed excellent seasons, they are still in the running to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin (Masters).
In the ATP Race rankings, the Bulgarian is 10th, just behind the Australian who is 9th. Knowing that the top 8 in the ranking will qualify for the Masters tournament, all hopes are therefore justified for both of them.
Especially as the players ahead of them in the ranking are already out of the running in Paris. Andrey Rublev (8th) and Casper Ruud (7th) fell at the first hurdle in the French capital, defeated respectively by Francisco Cerundolo (7-6, 7-6) and Jordan Thompson (7-6, 3-6, 6-4).
Dimitrov (victory over Etcheverry 6-7, 6-3, 7-5) and De Minaur (victory over Kecmanovic 6-4, 7-6) fulfilled the first part of their contract on Wednesday, qualifying for the last 16. But they'll have to go further in the tournament.
For the Australian, a place in the quarter-finals would take him past Rublev, and a place in the semi-finals would take him past Ruud. For the Bulgarian, it's going to be a more complicated affair, as he'll need to reach the final to overtake Rublev and win the title to overtake Ruud.
Next stop: Thursday. Dimitrov will face France's Arthur Rinderknech, while De Minaur will have his work cut out against the winner of the current clash between Jack Draper and Taylor Fritz.
