Djokovic discusses ending his collaboration with Murray: “We weren’t committed for the long-term”
This week, Novak Djokovic is present at the ATP 250 tournament in Geneva. After withdrawing from Rome, the Serb hopes to regain confidence before the French Open, which begins next week.
At a press conference, the former world number 1 was asked about the reasons for his split with Andy Murray. The Briton, who joined Djokovic's team at the beginning of the season, left his position after only a few months of collaboration.
“We weren’t committed for the long-term. Australia had been a test. We then decided to work together at Indian Wells and Miami. On clay, we were going to see tournament by tournament.
And we agreed on this separation. We felt that we couldn’t get more from this partnership on the court. My respect for Andy remains the same.
It is even greater since I got to know him better as a person. He has a brilliant tennis IQ. A rare champion's mindset. He sees the game incredibly.
But we did not achieve together what we hoped to achieve in terms of results. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. We tried,” he explained, according to comments collected by L’Équipe.
