Novak Djokovic was eliminated in the 1st round of the ATP 500 in Doha by Matteo Berrettini, a player he had beaten in all four of his encounters.

The Serb, who was returning from injury after retiring from the Australian Open, explained in a press conference that he had not felt any physical discomfort during the match: "I didn't feel any pain. Today, I was beaten by a better player than me, that's all.

I know I wasn't at the level I wanted to be, and it's possible that I didn't move the way I wanted to, but I want to be clear that I played without pain. There are no excuses.

Matteo was better than me, delivering a perfect match. Tactically, he was impeccable and served very well throughout the match. It's a deserved victory for him."
