Medjedovic beats Tsitsipas on one leg in Doha
Hamad Medjedovic pulled off one of the most improbable victories of the season, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in Doha (7-6, 5-7, 7-6) despite a muscle injury that prevented him from playing well in the final games of the match.
The match was hotly contested on the Qatari centre court, with Medjedovic taking the first set in a tie-break, before Tsitsipas woke up at the end of the second set to stay alive in the match.
But just as he was leading 5-4 in the third set, the Serb injured himself with a big break (see video below).
Despite the pain, Medjedovic hung in there and pulled off the feat of winning the tiebreak, despite limping off on every point.
Tsitsipas's handshake was frosty, as the Greek confirmed that he is struggling to get back to his best, even against a vastly diminished opponent.
Medjedovic is due to face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the next round, but his withdrawal is expected in the next few hours.
