Djokovic: I needed extra motivation and Andy gave it to me.

Novak Djokovic defeated Nishesh Basavareddy 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the Australian Open.

At the press conference, he was asked about his collaboration with Andy Murray.

He says: "As we haven't spent much time together, we're still in this initial phase of getting to know each other.

This was our first match together and I love having Andy on the bench.

The new seating arrangement, mainly on the court, also helps me to hear my whole team better.

At times, I approached Andy and asked him questions, and he gave me his opinion.

I love talking to him, he understands the sport better than anyone. He's a legend.

He understands the ups and downs you go through on the court, not just in terms of tennis, but also mentally and physically.

I don't need to explain much to him, he knows what I'm going through.

He did an excellent job today, getting up several times to encourage me.

He's a great guy and it's great to have him on my side.

He's constantly supporting and encouraging me. He does a brilliant job in that respect.

He cares a lot about me and puts a lot of energy into making me feel good on the pitch.

Honestly, I think that's what I need. I needed extra motivation, and Andy's giving it to me."

Djokovic faces Jaime Faria in the second round.
