Djokovic reflects on his forfeit: "I thank all my fans for their love and continued support"
It's the headline news of the day at Roland-Garros: with a right knee injury, Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the rest of the tournament. As well as handing his place as world number 1 to the Italian, this news casts doubt on the Serb's participation in Wimbledon and the Olympic Games.
In a short message posted on Instagram, Djokovic expressed his views on this difficult choice: "I'm really sad to announce that I have to withdraw from Roland Garros. I played with my heart and gave everything in yesterday's match, and unfortunately, due to a torn internal meniscus in my right knee, my team and I had to make a difficult decision.
I wish the best of luck to the players competing this week, and I sincerely thank my incredible fans for their continued love and support. See you all soon. With love and gratitude, Nole."
