Djokovic stuns Shanghai with otherworldly point: "Honestly, I don't know how I did it"
At 38 years old, Novak Djokovic continues to push the boundaries of what's possible. In Shanghai, the Serbian won an epic point against Zizou Bergs before admitting he didn't even know how he managed to pull it off.
Novak Djokovic reached his 80th Masters 1000 semifinal by defeating Zizou Bergs (6-3, 7-5) in Shanghai. During the press conference, the former world No. 1 spoke about that spectacular defensive point where he managed to return several of his opponent's smashes:
"Honestly, I prefer shorter rallies now (laughs). Any player can tell you that it's very difficult to smash here. If the ball goes very high, you lose sight of it in the darkness. It's very difficult to see when you're playing at night.
I was aware of that and he had already missed a smash on break point at 3-2 in the first set. I felt he wasn't really confident with his smash.
Honestly, I don't know how I managed the last defensive shot. I was just trying to give myself a chance to stay in the point. And yes, that was certainly the turning point of the match."
