Djokovic well ahead of Musetti (6-1)
It's becoming a classic of the season. For the fourth time this year, the Serbian and the Italian will face off.
On paper and paper only, the suspense doesn't really seem to be there as Lorenzo Musetti prepares to take on Novak Djokovic on the clay of Roland-Garros this Friday.
In this true clash of generations between a Djokovic with legendary experience and a Musetti still carried by his devastating ardor, the opposition of styles is seductive given the quality of many of their previous matches.
The only unknown factor in this match is the physical condition of the Serb, who seems to have hurt his knee again in Thursday's quarter-final against Tsitispas (won 6-3, 7-6).
That said, in 7 meetings, it's the Serb who leads the way, having won 6 times.
In the Grand Slam, the advantage is just as much in the world number 2's favor, as he has won all three of their duels in this category of tournament. Two at Roland-Garros and one at Wimbledon That said, 'Nole' needed to work hard each time, whether in Paris or London.
He needed 5 sets to get through their two meetings at Porte d'Auteuil, first in 2021 (6-7, 6-7, 6-1, 6-0, 4-0 ab.) and then this year in what was one of the matches of the tournament (7-5, 6-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0).
As for their semi-final at Wimbledon, again this year, Djokovic came through in 3 sets, but over 3 hours of play (6-4, 7-6, 6-4).
As for the surface, the advantage remains with the legendary champion, but it's less obvious.
Winner of three of their four duels on clay, Djokovic has struggled each time and even lost in Monte-Carlo in 2023 (4-6, 7-5, 6-4).
See you this Friday, on the Philippe Chatrier (not before 7pm), to find out which of these two athletes will play in Sunday's final and secure an Olympic medal.
