Djokovic wins smoothly against McDonald in his debut at Roland-Garros
Novak Djokovic continues the momentum from his 100th title achieved in Geneva. The Serbian, facing Mackenzie McDonald in the first round at Roland-Garros, hopes to build up his performance to pursue his 25th Grand Slam title, having not claimed a Major victory since the 2023 US Open. In other words, an eternity for a champion of his caliber.
Against the American, Djokovic faced no particular problems. In great shape, Djokovic played a solid match to win in straight sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-3), controlling the exchanges throughout the entire match.
With 32 winners and 20 unforced errors, he was also effective on serve, with 7 aces, just one double fault, and four break points saved.
A winner at Porte d’Auteuil in 2016, 2021, and 2023, Djokovic, who skipped the Rome Masters 1000 to go to Geneva, hasn't dropped a single set in the first round of this Paris tournament since 2010 against Evgeny Korolev, and qualifies for the second round where he will face a French player.
It remains to be seen whether his next opponent will be Corentin Moutet or Clément Tabur, who are currently facing each other. In the meantime, Djokovic can enjoy his 97th victory at Roland-Garros.
