Roland-Garros 2025: Gaston withdraws, Shelton advances to third round without playing
Bad news for the French camp. While he was supposed to face Ben Shelton during the night session this Wednesday evening on Court Philippe-Chatrier as part of the second round, Hugo Gaston will not be able to appear on the court.
The player from Toulouse, who defeated his compatriot Ugo Blanchet (2-6, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4) in the first round, seemed physically affected, and this victory evidently took a toll on him.
Withdrawing, Gaston thus sends Shelton, who defeated Lorenzo Sonego during his opener on Sunday evening (6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3), directly to the third round.
He could potentially face Stefanos Tsitsipas there, provided that the Greek overcomes Matteo Gigante. The tournament's organization will thus need to make some adjustments in its Wednesday schedule, and a new match is expected to take place in the evening in place of the initially scheduled match.
