Djokovic/Kyrgios pair eliminated in Brisbane round of 16

Djokovic/Kyrgios pair eliminated in Brisbane round of 16

After their first victory in the men's doubles draw, Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios were in the last 16 on January 1, 2025.

However, they faced a daunting obstacle in the form of the tournament's number 1 seeds: Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus.

The match was evenly balanced, and the Djokovic/Kyrgios pair gave their all, buoyed by the crowd.

Despite a lead in the super tie-break of the third set, logic was finally respected and Mektic/Venus had the last word (6-2, 3-6, 10-8).

But it's not over yet for the Serb in Brisbane. After his singles win over Rinky Hijikata (6-3, 6-3), Djokovic will return to the court on Thursday to face Gaël Monfils.

The Frenchman has never beaten him on the main circuit in 19 meetings.

Already eliminated in singles (he lost to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 in his opening match), the Australian will now be able to treat his wrist with a view to the Australian Open, which begins in two weeks' time and should be his next objective.
