Draper defends Sinner: "He doesn't deserve the hate he receives"
Winner of the Indian Wells Masters 1000, Jack Draper entered the top 10 for the first time in his career in recent weeks after winning the biggest title of his career so far.
Present in Madrid where he could face Tallon Griekspoor in his second round debut, the 23-year-old Briton gave an interview to the BBC in which he spoke about the absence of Jannik Sinner, suspended until May. As a reminder, Draper and Sinner have been training together in recent days.
"When people ask me about Jannik, I tell them the truth. I think he is a really genuine person, and I add that he is an incredible player. Regarding my feelings towards him, I think it is important for people to know and recognize that he has a good heart and is a good human being.
He doesn't deserve the hate he receives. I knew Jannik was available and that he was in Monte-Carlo on clay. So, we arranged with his team to go there for three or four days and train with him.
If you have to train with someone, it should be the best in the world, shouldn't it? Of course, he took a bit of rest, but he still plays at an incredible level.
It was good to be near him for a few days and have good training sessions. I'm looking forward to him coming back to the circuit, because we missed him," the Briton elaborated in recent hours.
