Draw for the WTA 500 Guadalajara Tournament: Mertens, Kudermetova, and Ostapenko Present, Jacquemot the Only French Player in the Draw
While the US Open women's final takes place this Saturday between Aryna Sabalenka and Amanda Anisimova, the WTA tour resumes elsewhere. Thus, the WTA 500 Guadalajara tournament is hosting its annual event in Mexico.
The top four seeds, Elise Mertens, Veronika Kudermetova, Jelena Ostapenko, and defending champion Magdalena Frech, are all exempt from the first round and will only enter the competition in the round of 16.
Top seed Elise Mertens will open her tournament against Maria Sakkari or Elsa Jacquemot. The latter is the only French player in the draw, but could be joined by Amandine Hesse if she manages to overcome the qualifying hurdle.
Kudermetova will play against a qualifier, and Ostapenko could face the other Kudermetova sister, Polina, in the second round. As for Frech, who is defending her title, she will have to overcome Sloane Stephens, a wildcard entry, or a qualifier.
This season's WTA 500 Queen's champion, Tatjana Maria, will play in the first round against Zeynep Sönmez, while Magda Linette will face Emiliana Arango. Finally, the young 17-year-old Iva Jovic will play against Katarzyna Kawa. Find the full draw for the Guadalajara tournament below.
