"Eat more bullfrogs": Taylor Townsend targeted by signs at the BJK Cup
Her statements were not well received. During her BJK Cup quarter-final, Taylor Townsend faced boos and mockery from Chinese supporters.
Townsend provoked the ire of Chinese fans following her criticisms of the buffet at her hotel in Shenzhen. Her remarks, specifically mentioning that they were "killing bullfrogs" to then eat them, sparked controversy, and the player later tried her best to apologize.
Present in the doubles match on Wednesday for the BJK Cup quarter-final against Kazakhstan, Townsend was booed as she entered the court, and some spectators had prepared a few signs for her:
"Taylor, eat more bullfrogs and you'll play better," read one of them.
The world No. 1 in doubles will return to the court in Shenzhen on Saturday for the semi-final between the United States and Great Britain.
