Errani falls to Friedsam in her last Roland-Garros singles
For her last Roland-Garros in singles, Errani had to go through the qualifiers to earn her spot in the main draw. Victorious in the first round after a tough match against Niemeier, the 38-year-old player faced another German, Friedsam, this time.
After a one-sided first set, the Italian conceded a harsh 6-0 in the second set before bouncing back to take her opponent to a very close tie-break, which was also fiercely contested and won by Friedsam. Ranked 284th in the WTA, the 31-year-old player born in Neuwied defeated the former world number five in three sets (1-6, 6-0, 7-6) and will face Garland in the next round.
Errani, for her part, played her last singles match at Roland-Garros. She concludes a fulfilling career, having won 9 WTA titles and reached the tournament final in 2012.
