Errani, two points away from defeat, extends her pleasure at Roland-Garros

At 38, Sara Errani is unstoppable. Just crowned in the women's doubles tournament with Jasmine Paolini in Rome, the world number 179 continued this Tuesday with the first round of singles qualifying for the Roland-Garros tournament.
In recent weeks, the Italian, a former world number 5 and finalist on Paris's clay in 2012 against Maria Sharapova, announced that there was a high chance this tournament at Porte d'Auteuil would be her last in singles.
Facing Jule Niemeier, the number 19 seed in this qualifying draw, the Italian came from behind to turn the situation around. After a catastrophic first set where she did not win a single game, Errani saw the German, ranked 129th by the WTA, pull away to serve for the match. Niemeier even led 6-0, 5-3, 30-30 before her opponent came back.
Outplayed in the game (12 winners against 57 for Niemeier), the Italian won the tiebreak in the second set before pulling through with her experience, on her seventh match point and after a lengthy final game (0-6, 7-6, 6-2 in 2h04).
Errani therefore continues her journey and will attempt to reach the final round of qualifying against another German player, Anna-Lena Friedsam, world number 284, who eliminated French wild card Ksenia Efremova (6-1, 7-5) earlier in the day.
