Maria Sakkari defeated Yulia Putintseva this Sunday in Bad Homburg. Their handshake had sparked controversy, with the Greek player criticizing the Kazakh for not looking at her during the exchange.

On her Instagram account, Putintseva reacted: "By the way, even if I don’t care, I shook her hand like most women do.

Clearly not according to the 'hug protocol' that some men seem to follow."

She also took the opportunity to share photos showing Sakkari in past handshakes where she also didn’t look at her opponent, captioning them: "The plot thickens.
