Fils, Still Recovering, Withdraws from Wimbledon

The uncertainty surrounding Arthur Fils' participation in Wimbledon had lingered. The French player, who suffered a stress fracture in his back during his second-round marathon match at Roland Garros against Jaume Munar—a five-set victory—had already withdrawn from the tournament before his third-round match against Andrey Rublev. He had left doubts about his presence in London during a press conference to explain his withdrawal.
This time, it's official: the 21-year-old, ranked 15th in the world, has withdrawn from the London Grand Slam. Still not fully recovered from his injury and having already been forced to skip the tournaments in 's-Hertogenbosch and Halle in recent weeks, Fils will now miss the entire grass-court season.
A quarterfinalist on British grass in 2024 (before losing to De Minaur), he will not be able to compete this year. With this withdrawal, Fabio Fognini will take his place directly in the main draw.
