Safin Won’t Accompany Rublev to Wimbledon Due to Visa Issue

Since early April and the start of the clay season, Marat Safin has been the new coach of Andrey Rublev, hoping to revive the Russian player, who has been struggling with confidence for several months.
Currently ranked 14th in the world, Rublev has failed to build on his title in Doha last February. Despite reaching the final in Hamburg against Flavio Cobolli and making the quarterfinals at Roland-Garros, where he lost to an impressive Jannik Sinner, the two-time Masters 1000 champion is looking for long-term reassurance.
Now working with Marat Safin, a former world No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam winner, Rublev began his grass-court preparation for Wimbledon at the Halle tournament.
After a straight-sets win over Sebastian Ofner, he fell in the next round to Tomas Martin Etcheverry after missing two match points. However, even before arriving in London for the Grand Slam, the 27-year-old Rublev has already received bad news.
Indeed, the 45-year-old Safin is unlikely to be able to accompany his new protégé to Wimbledon. His sister, Dinara Safina, confirmed the news in recent hours, citing visa issues for her brother, as reported by Tennis Talker.
So, Rublev will aim to improve on last year’s performance in the English capital without his coach—he was knocked out in the first round by Francisco Comesaña in 2024.
