Fils will be playing in his first Grand Slam round of 16!
Arthur Fils confirmed his current upward form by qualifying for the last 16 at Wimbledon on Saturday. This is the first time in his young career that he has reached this stage of a Grand Slam tournament.
The 20-year-old Frenchman emerged victorious from a tough three-hour battle with Roman Safiullin on Court 15 (4-6, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3). After completely missing his 3rd set (5 winners/9 unforced errors), he recovered perfectly in the next two (23 winners/13 unforced errors) to finish the match with a positive ratio of 57 winners to 45 unforced errors.
Fils will face Alex De Minaur, who benefited from Lucas Pouille's withdrawal, in a bid to reach the quarter-finals.
