Fils withdraws before his third round at Roland-Garros
Arthur Fils had narrowly escaped Jaume Munar’s clutches yesterday in a five-set battle, but the Frenchman finished the match physically compromised.
Though he hadn’t mentioned the possibility of withdrawing before facing Andrey Rublev tomorrow, the world No. 14 ultimately announced his exit from the tournament. He shared the news on his Instagram account:
"Hello everyone. It is with sadness that I am forced to withdraw from the draw of this tournament that I love. A tough decision, but a necessary one after medical advice. Thank you all for your support. Looking forward to returning to RG next year. See you soon."
Thanks to this withdrawal, Rublev advances to the round of 16, where he could face world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who plays tomorrow against Jiri Lehecka.
