Fonseca Loses in His Opening Match in Toronto
Despite being the favorite in this match, Fonseca fell to Schoolkate in his first round at Toronto (7-6, 6-4).
In his debut at this tournament, the Brazilian narrowly lost to the world No. 103. Unable to create break opportunities, he fell short against a very solid opponent behind his first serve (89% of points won).
Fonseca has thus begun his North American tour with a defeat. At just 18 years old and despite gradually breaking into the main circuit, he is aware of the high expectations surrounding him.
Meanwhile, the Australian qualifier secured his first-ever win against a top-50 player. In the next round, he will try his luck again against Arnaldi (No. 41).
