Fonseca Receives Wild Card to Compete in ATP 500 Halle Tournament

João Fonseca will compete in a grass-court tournament next week. The 18-year-old Brazilian player has arrived in Halle, where the world No. 57 will play in the second main draw of his career on this surface.
Indeed, the organizers of the German tournament have granted Fonseca a wild card, marking his second career appearance in a main draw. Last year, he lost in his opening match in Halle to James Duckworth (6-4, 6-4).
He will now intensify his preparation for Wimbledon on German grass, as part of an ATP 500 event. In 2024, he had competed in the qualifying rounds of the London Grand Slam but fell in the first round to Alejandro Moro Canas (4-6, 6-3, 7-6).
Now ranked in the top 60, he is guaranteed to compete in the season’s third Major. However, he will need to adapt to the surface, as he has yet to win a single match on grass at the main tour level.
