Sinner welcomed with a cake upon his arrival in Halle

Jannik Sinner has been the undisputed world number 1 for over a year now. Since the beginning of the 2024 season, the Italian has been impressively consistent, playing at a very high level and winning numerous prestigious titles (twice the Australian Open, the US Open, the Davis Cup, the ATP Finals, and three Masters 1000), proving relentless even against the best players in the world.
For the moment, only Carlos Alcaraz, who has won the last four matches against Sinner, seems to resist him. In recent days, the two members of the new generation delivered an epic 5h29 battle in the Roland-Garros final, and after failing to convert three match points, the native of San Candido eventually fell in the suspenseful match (4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6).
Nonetheless, Sinner can console himself with the fact that he celebrated his first anniversary at the top of the ATP rankings in recent days. Indeed, the 23-year-old player has been world number 1 continuously since June 10, 2024, the day after the Roland-Garros final a year ago.
Jannik Sinner started his 53rd consecutive week as the world number 1 on Monday. To mark the occasion, the organization of the ATP 500 tournament in Halle decided to celebrate this first anniversary.
Sinner, currently in Germany to participate in the tournament being played on grass, was welcomed with a cake that read "Welcome Jannik, 370 days world number 1." Last year, Sinner won this tournament by defeating Hubert Hurkacz in the final.
