Fonseca thinks about Roland-Garros: "I would love to face Djokovic in the first or second round"

Joao Fonseca is competing at the Madrid Masters 1000, where he will face qualifier Elmer Moller in the first round.
The breakout sensation of early 2025 after winning the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires, the Brazilian opened up about the Roland-Garros tournament, a Grand Slam where he has only played in the junior category so far (in 2022 and 2023).
"When you start playing these big tournaments, the Grand Slams, the qualifiers, I always tell my coach: 'If I make it to the main draw, I want to play against Djokovic,' because it's probably one of the last chances I'll get.
I hope I can face him. I would love to challenge him in the first or second round. I would try to play my best tennis—the result wouldn’t matter—I’d just enjoy the moment.
I love playing against seeded players, I love the challenge, and I play without pressure. I also enjoy engaging and interacting with the crowd—it’s an experience I want to have here.
Some players might prefer facing easier opponents first, but I’d rather play against the most iconic ones."
