Fonseca under the spell of the Laver Cup spirit: "What I'm experiencing here is madness"

João Fonseca provided a breath of fresh air for Team World on the first day of the 2025 Laver Cup, avoiding a catastrophic day with a convincing win against Flavio Cobolli.
For his first participation in the Laver Cup, Fonseca helped Team World avoid a total defeat on this first day of competition in San Francisco. The 19-year-old Brazilian player, ranked 42nd in the world, dominated Flavio Cobolli (6-4, 6-3).
He thus earned his team a point, although the Europeans won the other three matches of the day. In a press conference after his success against the Italian, Fonseca spoke about his joy of participating in such a tournament.
"From the start of the match, I played well. Maybe I was a bit nervous in the first games, but after receiving advice from André Agassi and the rest of the team, I managed to stay positive, which helped me play my best tennis.
What I'm experiencing here is madness. It's a great show. Francisco (Cerundolo) and Alex (De Minaur) constantly helped me during the side changes. We speak in Spanish among ourselves. To be honest, I didn't feel pressured.
I simply knew it was an important match for the team and that it would be difficult. I'm pleased to have managed to keep the right attitude. I managed to play aggressively, which is how I like to play.
It's fun to spend your free time off the court with players who are your opponents the rest of the year. With the players here, we talk about our strengths and weaknesses as players.
I think we help each other and this experience brings a special energy. I try to listen to everything legends like André tell me, as well as my teammates.
It's important to absorb as much information as possible to grow as a player, but also as a man," assured Fonseca to Punto de Break in recent hours.
