Fonseca wins his first ATP tournament in Buenos Aires!
Joao Fonseca, 18, triumphed for the first time in his career on the ATP circuit, winning the Buenos Aires tournament over Francisco Cerundolo (6-4, 7-6).
Impressive throughout the week, eliminating three Argentinian players (Etcheverry, Coria and Navone) on his way to the final, Fonseca repeated this performance on Sunday against Cerundolo.
After exchanging breaks at the start of the match, it was Fonseca who made the decisive break at 3-3 to win the first set.
The second set saw several twists and turns, with the Brazilian serving once to win the match at 5-4, then a second time at 6-5, without success.
It was then in the tie-break, with great mastery, that he managed to conclude the match with a final forehand winner.
With this first career title at the age of 18 years, 5 months and 26 days, he became the seventh youngest player since 1990 to win an ATP tournament.
Fonseca will also break into the Top 70 tomorrow, reaching 68th place in the world rankings.
