Fonseca, Youngest Player to Reach Wimbledon Third Round Since 2011
Fonseca and Brooksby faced off in the second round of Wimbledon. The two players had never met on the tour before.
After taking the first set 6-4, converting his only break point opportunity, the Brazilian continued to battle against the world No. 101. The intensity never dropped in the match until the American broke back at 6-5. Despite the equalizer, the 18-year-old showed no nerves as he closed out the match in 3 hours and 13 minutes with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory.
With this win, Fonseca reinforced his status as one of the men’s tour’s brightest young talents, becoming the youngest player to reach the third round at Wimbledon since 2011. It marks his third grass-court win of the season.
He will now face Jarry for a spot in the round of 16.
