Mannarino emerges victorious in all-French duel against Royer
Facing his fellow countryman Royer, Mannarino advanced to the third round of Wimbledon. A grass-court specialist, the 37-year-old got the better of his younger opponent in four sets (6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6).
Both players, who came through qualifying, engaged in a fierce battle lasting 3 hours and 25 minutes. Despite nearly identical numbers of winners (45 each), Royer committed far more unforced errors over the course of the match (47).
His opponent, meanwhile, relied on his serve, firing 18 aces. This marks his 10th grass-court victory of the year (including qualifying rounds).
In his 14th appearance, Mannarino will reach the third round of the British tournament for the 4th time, the last instance dating back to 2018.
