Sloane Stephens is back in competition this week at the WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara. Unranked, the 2017 US Open champion had not played a single match since February 26, when she lost in the first round of the Mérida tournament to Petra Martic.

Injured in the foot and subsequently operated on, the 32-year-old American is therefore present in Mexico this week, after a seven-month absence. On a streak of ten consecutive defeats since her first-round success at Wimbledon last year against Elsa Jacquemot, Stephens has played only three matches this year.

But the return to competition was spoiled by the rain that once again fell on the Mexican city last night. For this match, which is the final encounter of the first round, the outcome will have to wait until Wednesday.
