Fritz succeeds Roddick 18 years later at the US Open!
The wait is over for New York fans, who will finally be able to support one of their compatriots in Sunday's US Open men's final. Taylor Fritz, who beat Frances Tiafoe in 5 sets on Friday, will take on Jannik Sinner.
Andy Roddick was the last American to contest the title match at Flushing Meadows. It was in 2006 against Roger Federer (defeat 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1), 18 years ago.
Roddick was also the last American to lift the trophy, beating Juan Carlos Ferrero in the 2003 final.
