Fritz: "When I was younger, the top 5 was crazy, it was very difficult to surprise".

Fritz: When I was younger, the top 5 was crazy, it was very difficult to surprise.

Taylor Fritz has qualified for the third round of the Australian Open, after an easy win over Cristian Garin.

In a press conference, he spoke about the younger generation, led by Joao Fonseca and Jakub Mensik.

Their victories don't really surprise me," he said. They have different styles, but both are impressive.

I think it's much easier to play big events at their age than when you're a bit older.
You don't have any expectations or pressure, and you know you've got all the time in the world to improve.

When I was younger, the top 5 was crazy with Rafa, Federer, Novak, Andy and Stan. It was very difficult to surprise.

Maybe today it's a bit easier for younger players to win, because the top seeds aren't the best of all time.

That said, the depth of today's tennis is very important."

He will face Gaël Monfils in the third round.
