On this Monday, December 15th, the WTA revealed the winners of the WTA Awards 2025, across several categories in contention.

World No. 1, champion at the US Open as well as Miami and Madrid, Aryna Sabalenka logically wins the Player of the Year award. This is the second consecutive year that the Belarusian has received this honor.

Anisimova, a Spectacular Rise in 2025

The Most Improved Player of the Year award goes to Amanda Anisimova.

The American, ranked 41st in early February, embarked on a meteoric rise by winning the WTA 1000 in Doha, before reaching, a few months later, her first two Grand Slam finals at Wimbledon and New York.

She thus ended the year at world No. 4, the highest ranking of her career.

Bencic Logically Rewarded

Belinda Bencic is rewarded with the Comeback Player of the Year award. After giving birth to her daughter Bella in 2024, the Swiss player began her return to the tour a year ago at lower-tier circuit tournaments.

Quickly, Bencic regained the level she had before her maternity leave, securing two titles (Abu Dhabi and Tokyo) in addition to finishing the season on the cusp of the top 10 (world No. 11).

Mboko Preferred Over Boisson for Newcomer of the Year

For the Newcomer of the Year award, Victoria Mboko was chosen. At 18 years old, the Canadian made a mark by winning the WTA 1000 in Montreal in early August. Since then, she has established herself in the top 20 and claimed another title in Hong Kong in November.

Loïs Boisson, a surprise semifinalist at Roland-Garros, was among the nominees in this category.

Finally, the Doubles Team of the Year award was given to Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend, winners of the Australian Open at the start of the season and finalists at the US Open.

As we move to the end of this month and also closing out the year I am wishing all of those following me a Merry Christmas and a Happy/Healthy New Year.

Let's make that wish for all 2000 plus players hoping for 5 wins each day. Hoping ŵhen we open the results page to see all green, and no red. And especially NO CANCELED matches.

From me and my rotti JAZ, I bid you all good night, and see you in...

why did tennis tonic void predictions on the match between Chwalinska and Huergo at the Quito tournament? The match was played to completion and on time. If TT feels the match is one sided, and of course it was, then don't put it up for prediction. This is getting irritating.

The finals are here, and we scramble for the best finish. I've been chasing "King" all year and I was able to shrink the spread a little. Skelp is also closing the gap.

Seasons best to all the regulars in our league.

Will you all be back in the new year.?

Steffi Graf completed a Golden Slam (not just a career Grand Slam) when she was 19. She is the only person to accomplish that, winning the four majors plus Olympic gold the same calendar year.
