Garcia and Royer to Receive Wild Cards for US Open Participation
In a few weeks, Caroline Garcia will officially retire. The Frenchwoman, now ranked 197th in the world, announced last May that she would compete in her final Roland-Garros.
In the first round, she fell to Bernarda Pera (6-4, 6-4) and has not played a single match since. Withdrawn from Wimbledon due to a back injury, the 31-year-old will play her last Grand Slam at the US Open.
Indeed, according to L'Équipe, the former world No. 4 has received a wild card from the organizers of the New York Grand Slam and will enter the main draw directly. Garcia's best result at the American Major was a semifinal in 2022, where she lost to Ons Jabeur.
In the men's draw, Valentin Royer, ranked 113th in the world, will also receive a wild card and compete in the main draw for the first time in his career at Flushing Meadows, a year after losing in the final round of qualifying to Gabriel Diallo.
