Garcia is back to her best and beats Gauff in Miami!
Caroline Garcia created a sensation in Miami when she overcame Coco Gauff to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament. Winning 6/3, 1/6, 6/2 in 1 hour and 43 minutes, the Frenchwoman played the kind of superb tennis we haven't seen her play for many months. She will now face either Collins or Cirstea for a place in the semi-finals.
Garcia was initially very solid in the 1st set, keeping her break lead from the 2nd game (6/3). She then fell back into her old ways at the start of the 2nd set. She conceded 5 consecutive games (1/6) and was no longer the favorite for the final victory going into the decisive set. But the Frenchwoman regained her composure and ended up dominating the final set, even taking Gauff's serve one last time to close out the match.
This was Garcia's first victory over a Top 10 WTA player since the 2022 WTA Finals.
